During the Advent season, Regensburg's Old Town is transformed into an atmospheric sea of lights. With its winding alleyways and historic sights, the UNESCO World Heritage city provides the ideal backdrop for six Christmas markets that immerse visitors in the festive atmosphere.

From the enchanted wooden huts of the Christmas market on Neupfarrplatz to the romantic light show at Thurn und Taxis Castle - Regensburg offers a special experience for every Christmas lover. The Christmas market on Neupfarrplatz is one of the oldest and most traditional Christmas markets in the city.

The Christmas market on Neupfarrplatz: a Christmas classic

From 25 November to 23 December 2024, Neupfarrplatz shines in Christmas splendour. For over 200 years, this traditional market has been attracting visitors from all over who want to experience the authentic Regensburg Christmas feeling. Embedded in historic stalls and framed by the imposing Neupfarrkirche church, this market offers a special atmosphere characterised by a mixture of history and festive decorations.

The scent of roasted almonds, mulled wine and fresh sausages fills the air and invites you to take a leisurely stroll and feast. High-quality handicrafts and lovingly designed Christmas decorations offer a variety of gift ideas and souvenirs. A children's carousel awaits young visitors, and every Wednesday from 2 p.m. St Nicholas hands out sweets to the little ones - a highlight for families with children.

A colourful programme for young and old

The Christmas market on Neupfarrplatz not only delights visitors with its range of food and handicrafts, but also with its varied stage programme. Musicians and choirs regularly provide festive sounds that make the visit an atmospheric experience. With free admission, the market is an ideal meeting place to get in the mood for Christmas with family and friends.

Other Christmas markets in Regensburg

In addition to the Christmas market on Neupfarrplatz, Regensburg offers numerous other Christmas highlights. The Romantic Christmas Market at Thurn und Taxis Castle is a special experience with its romantic lighting of candles and torches. In the inner courtyard of the castle, traditional craftsmen present their art in rustic wooden huts, while musical performances and Bavarian specialities create a unique atmosphere.

Art lovers should not miss the Lucrezia Market on Haidplatz and Kohlenmarkt. Since 1982, this market has been offering top-quality arts and crafts, from jewellery and candles to sculptures and glassware - ideal for sophisticated gift ideas. The changing cultural programme with theatre, music and magic makes the visit a new experience every year.

Another gem is the Advent market in the Katharinenspital, which creates a particularly cosy atmosphere with live music, campfires and specialities such as game dishes and mulled beer. Here, right next to the Stone Bridge, you can enjoy Advent in a romantic ambience.

Another highlight is the Christmas magic on Bismarckplatz, where two lovingly decorated stalls await your visit again this year. Various social organisations offering handmade products and culinary delicacies rotate here every day. The Christmas magic is supported by the film stage, which provides for the physical well-being. This market not only brings a festive atmosphere, but also offers the opportunity to support a good cause with every purchase - ideal for all those who want to share joy in the run-up to Christmas.

The offer is rounded off by the Gräflicher Christkindlmarkt in the rose garden of the Gasthaus Rosarium on the edge of Dörnbergpark. Nestled between old trees and with magical lighting in the evening, this market offers a wide selection of regional handicrafts and international delicacies.
