Five beautiful destinations in Bavaria for 2024
From the Inn Valley to Oberammergau - these five tours should definitely be on your list for 2024.
New year, new destinations. More precisely, travel destinations! From a family-friendly hike to a relaxing city break, Bavaria is also waiting for you in the new year with fantastic destinations. Let these five different suggestions inspire your next tour.
Family-friendly gorge hike in the Inn Valley
The whole family will get their money's worth on this excursion, as the tour through the Schlossbachklamm gorge is a diverse nature experience. The trail takes you for about eleven kilometers through fairytale-like gorge landscapes and past fascinating gorges. Be sure to pause briefly when crossing the lattice bridge and let yourself be enchanted by the sight of the masses of water rushing underneath you. Does the panorama look familiar to you by any chance? This is where the Hollywood movie K2 was filmed for two days. We recommend this hike from spring to autumn, because in winter the gorge is closed.
City tour through Nuremberg
"Gräiß God" (Franconian for "Greetings") in Franconia! The second largest city in Bavaria is definitely worth a visit. Enjoy the contrast created by the historic old town and the trendy neighborhoods. The landmarks Lorenzkirche, Museumsbrücke, Heilig-Geist-Spital and Kaiserburg invite you to take a walk through Nuremberg's history. The Dürer House with its painter and printing workshop offers an exciting change of pace in between and in the trendy district of Gostenhof ("GoHo") you can let yourself drift between quaint cafés, colorful vintage stores and impressive graffiti.
Hike around the Great Alpsee
The circular trail around the largest natural lake in the Oberallgäu is a leisurely, family-friendly hike. The path runs fairly level along the shore of the Großer Alpsee, takes about three and a half hours and the many benches along the way invite you to take short breaks. A spectacular panoramic view opens up as you walk around the lake, no matter what time of year you go stalking. In summer, the emerald-green shimmering water makes the lake look quite magical. And open your eyes! Perhaps you will spot the yellow troll flower or the turquoise-blue iridescent kingfisher among the colorful litter meadows, reed belts and marshlands. In winter, the tour unfolds a very special, fairy-tale magic - along the snow-covered mountains it goes through the wintry landscape. And, don't forget your skates! When the lake is frozen, you can skate on it wonderfully (please inquire about the load-bearing capacity of the lake at the tourist information office in Immenstadt beforehand).
On a journey through time in romantic Rothenburg
A walk like in another time: Discover Rothenburg ob der Tauber's medieval town center with its narrow half-timbered houses and winding alleys. You can even follow in Pinocchio's footsteps, as the "Plönlein", the town's landmark, served as a model for Pinocchio's birthplace for his draftsmen. Take a short detour to the romantic castle garden, which invites you to linger. And afterwards, to round off the day, you can enjoy a treat in the traditional tavern "Zur Höll".
Altherrenweg in Oberammergau
A leisurely hiking experience for the whole family - whether young or old. A relaxed and at the same time exciting tour awaits you on the Altherrenweg, which is suitable for a hike at any time of the year. In summer, the circular trail leads past beautiful meadows, all the while revealing views of the Ammergau Alps. On the way you also pass through the nature reserve "Pulvermoos", one of the largest fens in Bavaria and home to a variety of species protected plants. Even in winter, the Altherrenweg in Oberammergau is definitely worth a trip. Enjoy the view of the powder-white peaks of the Ammergau Alps and the Ammer Valley. No matter what time of year, for the kids the wooden sculptures - for example Ulf, the giant dwarf - at the edge of the path are a very special attraction.
