The Nebelhornbahn in Oberstdorf offers one of the most impressive mountain backdrops in the Allgäu. With a breathtaking view of the Alps and a wide range of activities for every season, it is a highlight for nature lovers, hikers and winter sports fans.

With the Nebelhorn cable car up to 2,224 metres

The ride on the modern cable car is an experience in itself. Three sections take you up to the 2,224 metre-high Nebelhorn. Once at the top, a 400-metre summit view awaits you that is second to none. Particularly impressive: the panoramic viewing platform, which will amaze even experienced mountaineers.

Alpine views of the Allgäu mountains

The Nebelhornbahn , which was completely renovated in 2021, takes you safely up to 2,224 metres in comfortable 10-seater gondolas - making it the highest mountain railway in the Allgäu. Your adventure begins in Oberstdorf: it's just a few minutes' walk from the railway station to the valley station. Alternatively, you can take bus no. 9, which takes you directly to the Nebelhornbahn in seven minutes. Whether summer or winter - the journey to the summit promises to be a real highlight.

Hiking on the Nebelhorn: routes for every level of difficulty

The hiking trails on the Nebelhorn offer something for everyone - from leisurely walks to challenging mountain tours. One highlight is the panoramic trail to the Seealpe, which is particularly suitable for families. The Hindelanger via ferrata, which combines a sporting challenge with spectacular views, is recommended for the adventurous.

Tip: Plan your tour well in advance and remember to wear sturdy shoes and weatherproof clothing!

A paradise for winter sports

In winter, the Nebelhorn is transformed into a first-class ski resort with pistes of all levels of difficulty. The valley run is one of the longest in Germany with a length of 7.5 kilometres. There are also numerous opportunities for cross-country skiers, tobogganists and snowshoe hikers to enjoy the snow.

Snack with a mountain backdrop

At the summit station, you will be greeted by a spectacular Alpine panorama. The Nebelhorn 2224 summit restaurant sits enthroned here, combining rustic charm and futuristic design with its modern architecture - affectionately called the "Elphi" by Allgäu locals as a nod to Hamburg's Elbphilharmonie concert hall. Allgäu delicacies, savoury dishes and sweet treats taste particularly good against the impressive mountain backdrop. Treat yourself to a short break and enjoy the fresh mountain air, which will whet your appetite for more.

365 days of Alpine action

The legendary 400-peak panorama attracts hikers and winter sports enthusiasts alike. No wonder the Nebelhorn is known by locals as the "grandstand of the Alps". A varied programme awaits you here at any time of year. While winter beckons with long pistes and a wide range of snow sports options, in the warmer months you can experience numerous hiking routes and mountain adventures against a unique backdrop.

Mountain lake romance in the middle of the Alps

A special highlight is the hike to Seealpsee, which is hidden between the mountains, shimmering in lush green. This 42 metre deep high mountain lake lies against the impressive backdrop of the Seeköpfles and is one of the most famous postcard motifs in the region. The hike starts at the summit station of the Nebelhornbahn cable car and leads you downhill along well-signposted paths to the Höfatsblick station and on to the Seealpsee lake. After a refreshing swim, you return along the same route - an experience that will stay with you for a long time.

Summit bliss with a thrill

The Nordwandsteig offers a very special experience for adrenaline fans. A small tunnel takes you from the mountain station directly to the 220-metre-long steel construction that circles the summit of the Nebelhorn. Here you can experience spectacular views of up to 600 metres - a real adventure that is accessible to everyone thanks to the barrier-free construction. Whether with a pushchair or wheelchair, the thrills and views are guaranteed.

After your mountain adventure, you can enjoy the warming rays of sunshine on the panoramic terrace or relax in the cosy dining room with its tiled stoves. The Nebelhorn cable car will then take you safely back down to the valley, where you can start your journey home from the nearby Oberstdorf railway station.
