Alpine views: with its more than 400 mostly snow-covered peaks, the Nebelhorn is one of the highlights of the Allgäu mountains. The Nebelhorn cable car, which will be completely renovated in 2021, will take you safely up to 2,224 metres in 10-seater gondolas - making it the highest mountain railway in the Allgäu. The adventurous mountain adventure starts at Oberstdorf station. From here it is a ten-minute walk. Walk straight ahead from the station square onto the main road. After 70 metres, Nebelhornstraße turns left and leads you directly to the valley station. Alternatively, take bus number nine to reach the Nebelhornbahn in seven minutes.
Snack with mountain backdrop
At the summit station of the Nebelhorn cable car, the welcome committee is already waiting in the form of a spectacular Alpine panorama. It is crowned by the futuristic and at the same time rustic-chic appearance of the Nebelhorn 2224 summit restaurant. The Allgäu people call the two-storey restaurant building "Elphi" with a wink - a reference to the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. If the fresh mountain air whets your appetite, the panorama restaurant is just the place for you: against the backdrop of the mountain range, desserts, Allgäu delicacies and hearty dishes taste particularly delicious.
Alpine action 365 days a year
The legendary 400-peak panorama on the Nebelhorn captivates hikers and winter sports enthusiasts alike. It's not for nothing that the people of Oberstdorf call their local mountain the "Tribune of the Alps". The best thing is that there is something to do here in every season! In winter, the skiing area attracts snow sports fans of all levels to lofty heights with its varied pistes and diverse outdoor offerings. In the warmer months, the countless hiking routes offer plenty of mountain experiences against a unique backdrop of peaks.
Mountain lake romance in the middle of the Alps
For example, a moderately difficult hiking tour from the summit station directly to the shimmering green Seealpsee. At 42 metres, it is one of the deepest mountain lakes in the Allgäu and, with the 1,920-metre-high Seeköpfle in the background, one of the best-known postcard motifs. The approximately three-hour circular walk starts at the summit station of the Nebelhorn cable car. Follow signpost 1a, which leads you downhill to the Höfatsblick station. From there, continue downhill via trail 4 to the Seealpsee lake. Don't forget your swimwear! After jumping into the refreshing high-mountain lake, take the same route back to the starting point.
Summit happiness with thrills
Fancy a thrill? The small tunnel at the mountain station, which is right next to the restaurant, takes you directly to the little test of courage. The summit of the Nebelhorn can be circumnavigated via the Nordwandsteig (North Face Climb) on an approximately 220-metre-long steel construction. The trail runs very close to the vertically sloping north face and offers deep views of up to 600 metres. The spectacular view of the summit is on top. Mountain adventure for all: Due to the barrier-free construction, the North Face Trail is easy to use for families with prams as well as for visitors with physical disabilities who need a wheelchair or walker. Finally, enjoy the sun's rays on one of the spacious terraces or the cosy warmth of the tiled stoves in the large guest room. Afterwards, the highest mountain railway in the Allgäu will bring you safely back down to the valley to start your journey home from Oberstdorf station after an eventful day.
