Adventure world at Grünten near Burgberg in the Allgäu: experience mining
Mining has a long tradition in the Allgäu. This is why an entire museum village has been created around the ore mines.
Discover the Allgäu from its underground side - in the truest sense of the word: on the Grünten, also known as the "Guardian of the Allgäu", you can immerse yourself in the world of mining. In the ore mines near Burgberg, an entire museum village has been built around the decades-long mining history of the Allgäu. In addition to exciting facts about the geology of the Grünten and the entire Allgäu, you can experience first-hand how the "miners" worked "underground" between the 14th and 19th centuries. You can get to the adventure world in comfort with the Erzgrubenbähnle, for example, which travels directly to the museum from various stops in Burgberg. To get to Burgberg, take the train to Sonthofen - after a two-kilometre walk you will reach the Erzgrubenbähnle stops.
Experience mining history in three different huts
In the museum village itself, you can discover different themed huts, each with a different focus on mining. In the geology hut, fossils for young and old are on display, including shark teeth and starfish found high up on the Grünten. In the mining hut there is a real replica of a mine tunnel and in the blacksmith's hut you can marvel at a historic forge, which was once used to make many things for everyday work: from pitchforks to small nails. Incidentally, on special days, forges are occasionally forged in a show forge as they were back then. An exciting and authentic excursion into the past for explorers of all ages.
