Cycling pleasure meets the art of brewing
Experience the best of both worlds on this e-bike tour: the idyllic landscape around Pfaffenhofen and the traditional art of brewing in three local breweries.
Pfaffenhofen a.d.Ilm

54 km
This tour is something for beer lovers and landscape enthusiasts. Three breweries are visited, and in between the ride takes you along streams, through shady forests, rolling hills and between - how could it be otherwise - hop fields.
At 53 kilometres and with some differences in altitude, the circular tour is ideal for e-bikes, but can also be ridden well on a trekking or sports bike if you have a bit of stamina.
The paths are very well developed, and if you cycle alongside the road, then also on separate cycle paths.
Guided tours are offered in the Scheyer monastery brewery for groups of 10 or more. It is worth enquiring in advance if you are interested, even if you are travelling alone, perhaps you can join a group that has already registered: Telephone: 08441 7520.
A cycle tour for culture lovers and connoisseurs
Arrive relaxed and hire bikes from local hire companies. The capacity for taking bikes on the trains is limited and, depending on capacity utilisation, taking your own bike on board cannot be guaranteed.

You will now pass the Bürgerpark, which was created in 2017 for the small garden show "Nature in the City". You pass the Pfänder or Hunger Tower, which was built around 1400 and in which many a poor debtor, or sometimes just rascals and gamblers, served their sentence. You cycle across Pfaffenhofen's main square, giving you an impression of Paffenhofen's old town centre. The main square is mainly characterised by the town hall to the east and the parish church to the west. Both were built in the neo-Renaissance style in the 19th century.
After crossing the Gerolsbach, you cycle through the parks on the banks. At Mitterscheyern, the path turns southwards and leads you into Scheyern.
Scheyern monastery, monastery brewery and monastery pub
Scheyern Monastery was initially founded in Bayrischzell almost 950 years ago and moved to Scheyern in 1119. The Wittelsbachs had already settled here in 508.
The monastery is run by Benedictine monks. The educational and pastoral work as well as the maintenance of the monastery facilities require financial support. The monastery therefore runs several commercial enterprises. Sustainable management in small, regional cycles is central to this.
The monastery butchery, the brewery, the monastery tavern and the agricultural areas are all based on this principle. For example, the hops for the brewery are harvested in the surrounding area, sometimes even on the monastery's own land. The beer specialities brewed here are sold in the Klosterschenke, but also in other regional pubs.
Guided tours of the brewery are available by appointment. There is a minimum group size of 10 people. A guided tour lasts 60 minutes and costs 4 euros per person. Visitors can register on: 08441- 752230 or by e-mail.
In addition to the brewery parlour and restaurant, the Klosterschenke also has a traditional beer garden. From April to October, guests can sit here in the shade of old trees and enjoy the brewing specialities of the monastery brewery. They can either enjoy home-made specialities or, as is customary in Bavaria, bring their own snacks. The beer garden is considered one of the most beautiful beer gardens in Upper Bavaria.

Your next stage covers around 25 kilometres and initially takes you along the Schnatterbach. The landscape is slightly hilly, with a good downhill section before Gerolsbach. In Strobenried you pass the church of St Leonard, which was built in 1495. Now it's another 10 kilometres to the Metzgerbräu brewery in Hohenwart. Shortly before Hohenwart, Englmannsberg Castle with its chapel is on the left. It dates back to the 15th century, but has been extended with farm buildings and structurally altered over the course of time.
Metzgerbräu Hohenwart
Gasthof Metzgerbräu has been family-owned for four generations and has made local brewing history.
What once began as a hobby soon led to professional brewing. Whether seasonal bock beer, various summer beers or light beers such as Zwickl and Paartalperle - the brewing specialities from Hohenwart are refreshing, drinkable and popular. The beers are served in the pub. If you want to take beer home with you, you can have it filled into 1-litre swing-top bottles.
Beer tastings, brewing courses and menu evenings are organised on request.

Your way back leads through the villages of Seibersdorf and Menzenbach. You pass the 532 metre high Wolfsberg with the Pfaffenhofen transmission tower. Back in Pfaffenhofen, you will find the last brewery inn for today on the main square, which is also steeped in tradition.
Brewery inn Müllerbräu Pfaffenhofen
Beer was already being brewed on the main square in Pfaffenhofen in 1630. And the progenitor of the Müller brewing family is mentioned in old documents as early as 1776.
Müllerbräu Pfaffenhofen obtains almost all of its energy as well as its heating and cooling requirements from renewable sources, making it one of the world's leading breweries.
From 2024, the new brewery will be added to the tourist highlights, where guests will be able to experience the brewing process first-hand and enjoy the gastronomy at the same time. However, this is still a vision of the future behind the construction site noise in Kellerstraße in Pfaffenhofen.
For the Müllerbräu inn on the main square, the following applies: whether light, wheat or dark beer, non-alcoholic or bock beer - the range of Müllerbräu brewing specialities for the big and small thirst is diverse. The pub also serves delicious snacks for small appetites and home-made dishes for larger appetites.
