From Winterhausen to Sommerhausen
On the "Sun, Moon and Stones" cultural trail in Lower Franconia, you hike from Winterhausen to Sommerhausen through vineyards, past the shell limestone quarry and enjoy fantastic views over the River Main.
Winterhausen

Winterhausen - a picturesque half-timbered village directly on the river. On the opposite bank: Sommerhausen, with its equally romantic architecture, castle and wine taverns. What sounds like a fairytale setting from the Brothers Grimm is an idyllic spot in Lower Franconia - and the starting point and destination of a hiking tour on both sides of the Main.
The "Sun, Moon and Stones" cultural trail - so called because of the sun in the Sommerhausen coat of arms, the moon in the Winterhausen counterpart and the path past the shell limestone quarry - leads from Winterhausen to Goßmannsdorf. Accompanied by fantastic panoramic views over the Franconian wine country and the River Main, the return route leads along the eastern slope to Sommerhausen. Sturdy footwear is recommended due to the sometimes steep ascents and descents.
The circular tour can also be walked in sections, with a stop on the railway line between Winterhausen and Goßmannsdorf.

From the railway station, turn left into Hohlweg via Schützenstraße and Fuchsstadter Straße.
Now follow the markings with the yellow EU boat. After a slight incline, you will reach the viewing point with the "Kulturlandschaft Würfelleite" station.
At the "Mondguckerin" viewing platform, the changes in the cultural landscape over the centuries are illuminated. The trail continues in the direction of Goßmannsdorf - if you are lucky, you will come across a shepherd with his flock at the remains of a canteen in the Großmannsdorf quarry.
The stonemason's path leads down to Goßmannsdorf in a romantic location on both sides of the Schafbach stream and with an almost completely preserved village wall.
Shortly before leaving the village, we come to the former synagogue.
